Can boosting your purpose help?
If you’re in a stable job are surviving this recession then you’re significantly in a better position than many but this can still apply to you. As there are many reasons we can feel we’ve lost purpose. Currently there are many highly skilled people and businesses that are suffering in this recession. Many highly skilled people that have little to no work.
This is something that can hugely impact a persons feelings of worth. If you're so inclined - you likely want to act/to do something to make changes that can positively turn things around. And when you’ve exhausted all you think you can do - cutting back on outgoings, power usage, selling things and you’re still in the same situation it’s incredibly tough on people.
Humans need purpose. We do. We want to feel useful, capable and productive. Something like a recession can absolutely make a person feel quite the opposite. Even the confidence to go out and ask for more work? Promoting yourself when you’ve lost some of that confidence in yourself. It’s not easy.
This is a time to have that positive self talk. To know you’re worthy, you’re capable, you’re good at what you do. You’re not actually here because you’re not good at what you do. The recession we’re in isn’t your doing. Wherever you can continue to plug away, and put yourself out there is going to in turn, feel like you’re doing something - which IS purpose. You’re purpose is rarely one thing e.g. being a personal trainer and be a provider in any way you can. Until things improve - your purpose focus is to keep trying to provide for yourself/your family. Even the act of doing can change the way you’re feeling internally. It’s not a given, but it can help hugely compared to doing the opposite.
Don’t be afraid to create new purpose temporarily - to try something different. Who knows what door that might open and how that might change the shape of your future. Our limiting beliefs can restrict the potential we have at our fingertips if we just try.
